Maybe with training

Ok, so it appears that Darby is not a "natural" dock diving dog. Oh well. We had a great time and got some practice in. Not to mention some advice from some AWESOME handlers! Darby showed some promise at practice but did not jump in the competition. I think with a little work she would do pretty good at dock diving. Guess we need to go and visit Grandma & Grandpa more often and get some time in the lake. :)
It was a super nice day again here in Evansville. Not too hot and no storms. (Yet) I had a lot of fun watching some really AWESOME dogs today. The people were great too. The crowd was AWESOME!! When it was Darby's turn everyone was cheering her on.
I am pretty sure that Darby had a great day too. She was all alone with me almost all day! Living with a pack and pride I try to do something with each dog on their own.

Dock Diving Darby?!

Evansville is having their Freedom Festival this weekend. I grew up in the area and have NEVER attending this festival. The weather is typically the reason I have never been. It is usually super hot and extremely humid during the festival.

Anyway, so my first year back home and I am going to the festival. The weather is fairly nice. Not too hot, although we had some nasty storms last night. But the main draw for me is the Dock Diving Dogs!!! I love dog sports. Me and my Mom went today and had a great time. I was in my typical off work attire, dog agility shirt and shorts. We were watching the dogs practice when 2 women came over and asked "Are you Kristie?". I immediately checked to see if for some strange reason I had worn my work ID. Nope. I told them yes, and they said they saw me with an agility shirt on and they knew that I was new to the area (via the local Yahoo agility group)and thought they would introduce themselves. It was very cool. I had "talked" to them online, but had never met them before. They then asked if I had a dog in the competition. I didn't know that anyone could enter. So, I am going back tomorrow with Darby. We are entered in the early am Wake. We have NEVER done any dock diving so it will be interesting to see how it goes. Darby is my Australian Cattle Dog and likely the only one of my dogs who would try such a feat. My main concern is that she will see the size of the pool there and demand something larger than her plastic baby pool at home. :)

Tomorrow is also the finals so there will be a lot of talented dogs out there!
I'll keep you posted. I am sure we will have a FUN time no matter what :)

Personality

I stole this from a Ravelry friends blog. I don't think they got the calm thing right. But anyway, it's kind of interesting.

Alix's hat and sweater DONE!

ok, so the buttons are not on the sweater yet, but big deal.

I could not have gotten these 2 projects done without my dear knit friends. And especially Chris and Erin! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. And thanks so much for not letting me get completely stressed out and cry over the hat tonight. You both are great. If you ever need help with a dog or cat, let me know, I'm there. :)
So here are some pictures of the finished objects. Alix, chime in and let me know what you think, ok?
Cosmo thought she should try it on first since orange is her color, but she doesn't care much for the hat.

So then Brindi took over and showed Cosmo how it was supposed to be done. Brindi is the usual pup to model my creations.

What happened to spring?

I can't believe how hot it has been here this last week. UGH! I pretty much do whatever I can to stay out of the sun. I barely leave the house until it is dusk. It's been horrible.
I still haven't got Darby's pool out, but since it's been so hot she hasn't gotten to play frisbee either. Have I mentioned that it is HOT!
I am more of a cold weather type person. I hate the heat. Ok, I'll try to let that go and move on.
What are some things I have done to keep cool? Well I have finished Alix's sweater. Ok, so I still have to sew on the buttons, but really does that count? I am almost done with a matching hat for her sweater. I need to get some double pointed needles to finish it though. UGH. I have an unrational fear of dpns. I have also started working on her minkee quilt too. Busy, busy. :)
I don't care much for working with the minkee fabric. It is very linty and messy to cut. It also is difficult to sew. But, the finished product is very, very soft. Oh, well I have 2 rows sewn together and only 5 left to go. It's only a kids quilt so it should go fast, just need to get it done.

Brindi and I are doing pretty good in our agility class. She is doing AWESOME, I am doing ok. I really enjoy practicing agility. Now, if only my foot would heal up already. I suffer from plantar fasciitis, and it SUCKS!

All the other kidz are doing well.

Softball

Sunday was my sister's first softball game. Alix and I were two of the team's fans cheering them on. It was a very nice afternoon, albeit HOT! Alix was a sweetie. We had such a good time hanging out that after the ballgame we went grocery shopping. Sadly, Amanda's team lost, but it was a very close game.

Here are some pictures of Alix from Sunday. Alix is almost 6 months old and is really starting to show a lot of personality.

Knitting news:

I have finished the knitting portion of Alix's sweater. Now all I have to do is learn how to sew the sleeves up! The pattern was difficult for me to grasp at first, but in the end I really like the pattern. Now I need to find a pattern for a matching orange hat.

I have started a new project. I am making some star coasters and dishcloths. My goal is to get them done in time for the Great Lakes Border Collie Rescue picnic this summer. I am planning on donating them for the auction. They are being made with Lily Sugar & Cream red, white, and blue striped yarn. Very patriotic, yes?
